Meyer Marks was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he received a BA in Political Science, with a concentration in International Relations from the University of Central Arkansas. Recently, he has pursued his Masters in European Studies from Georgetown Unversity.
Marks began his political career as the first finance director in over 20 years for the Republican Party of Arkansas, where he was able to bring the party out of debt. Marks was instrumental in rebuilding the state party after the Clinton years. Marks was later recruited to manage numerous state and federal campaigns through out the midsouth.
In 1988, he founded Marks and Associates,a government relations firm that specializes in health care and educational issues. Being the caregiver for his mother with Alzheimers, Marks has become a leading advocate for health care reform. Over the years, he has represented health care clients at the state and federal level. In 2001, Marks was instrumental in estabilishing a state office for Arkansas, in Washington, DC, that has generated increased federal funding to the state.
In 2005, he founded EUSA Council, a non-government organization, whose mission is to strengthen Trans-Atlantic relations through educational and cultural exchange programs. Its current focus has been working with European Embassies in Washington and Members of Congress in facilitating greater cooperation between the United States and her European Allies.
On Capitol Hill, Marks has become a leading spokesperson for improving US relations abroad through increased public diplomacy. To encourage greater dialogue, EUSA Council was intrumental in establishing a US/EU Congressional Caucus on Capitol Hill. EUSA Council sought the passage of a Proclamation to commemorate European unity after the end of the Cold War.
In 2008, Marks was a candidate for US Congress from Maryland’s District 8. As a candidate, he is commited to greater transparency and fiscal accountability. Marks is now a Government Affairs consultant for the current debate on health care reform. He resides in Bethesda, Maryland, where he is running for Maryland Senate District 16.
